The public came out to welcome Doctor Cheryl Logan as Omaha Public School's new superintendent at Monday night's board meeting.

"When I decided I wanted to become superintendent I wanted to be successful," said Dr. Cheryl Logan.

Now that she officially holds that title, Dr. Logan says she's ready to get to work.

"Budget is going to be a challenge and finance is going to be a challenge," said Dr. Logan.
First she says she wants to fully get to know her team.

"You want to be able to see something that is completely authentic, it's the thing that I am really looking forward to understanding the district as it is," said Dr. Logan.

Keeping students safe is at the top of her priority list.

"Making sure our children are safe everyday that's a big thing that I think about," said Dr. Logan.

Perfecting the curriculum is another biggie for the new superintendent.

"Helping to focus the efforts in a way that is consistent with how I view curriculum instruction and assessment," said Dr. Logan.

She says she's been preparing to dive in head first.

"There are a lot of things that you need to be in the chair without training wheels in order to learn and that's the next part of the journey over the next 90 days," said Dr. Logan.
