OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Police are investigating an overnight shooting Friday that left one young male dead.
Officers were called to the area of 43rd Avenue and Laurel Avenue just before 2:00 a.m. Upon arrival, they found a victim and rushed him to the hospital. The victim was found in the front seat of a car. He has been identified as 17-year-old Gary Marshall.
Police say their investigation determined that "the juveniles were in possession of a firearm and it was discharged while being handled."
They say they consulted the Douglas County Attorney's office and that a 14-year-old male was booked into Douglas County Youth Center for Discharge of a Firearm in a Vehicle.
On Twitter, the Omaha Police Department asked that anyone with information about the origin of gun call them:
"Prayers to all families involved. Anyone with information on illegal guns or illegal gun activity please call @OPDCrimeStop #OPD These kids should never have had access to a weapon."
