PACIFIC JUNCTION, Iowa (KMTV) — Residents in Pacific Junction and Glenwood are asking for votes to win a contest that would award $25,000 for playground equipment.

Clydie Nelson is the daughter of the Pacific Junction's mayor and also a victim of flooding from March. She says winning the Kiwanis 2019 Legacy of Play Contest would help keep the community alive. The town is recovering after flood damage.

"We need this for our town to get our basic functions of life back," Nelson said.

The Kiwanis group in Glenwood applied for the grant to support Pacific Junction. Kiwanis International is awarding the prize money to one community. The winner is based on votes. The first round of voting closes Wednesday, May 29 at 11 a.m. The 10 communities with the most votes will move on to the final round. Cities that applied include cities in Iowa, Virginia and Florida, among others. You can vote at the bottom of the page at this link. Some users may have to click "see more."

Kiwanis contest rules state the funds must be used by October 31, 2020. The group says the winner will be announced on its Facebook around June 7.
