Transparency in policing, more and more departments are using body cameras and the Papillion Police Dept. is one of them.
For about the last month all 25 officers have worn the wireless cameras capturing all calls. They say it's been a seamless transition since it's compatible with their cruiser cam equipment.
Officers can review their video to help them write their reports, turned over as evidence, or if a citizen files a complaint.
The video is saved for 90 days unless it needs to be saved for longer because of a criminal case, or complaint.
Papillion Police Chief Scott Lyons says that it was the officers who were asking to get the body cameras.
"Number one you have the transparency of police contacts. It gives us the ability to go back and look at those because they're recorded. It also provides an avenue for officers to look at their video and write their reports,” Chief Lyons explains.
Chief Lyons says he's had a handful of other departments come in to look at their system, and see if they should use body cams.
