PAPILLION, Neb. (KMTV) — A 25-year-old woman died after she was stuck in an in-home elevator at a Papillion home Thursday afternoon.
According to authorities, the woman, identified as Asha Chaudhuri was stuck between the elevator deck and the main floor of her home. Papillion Fire took around 20 minutes to get her free but they are not sure how long she was trapped for prior to their arrival. It is also unclear how she got there.
She was transported to Bergan Mercy in critical condition but died shortly after arriving.
Investigators say the woman had special needs and used a wheelchair. They say she often used the lift system to get around the house.
Investigators believe the tragic death appears to be accidental. The incident is under investigation by Sarpy and Douglas County officials.
