OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — A special prayer vigil was held Monday afternoon at Clare Memorial United Methodist Church.

Several pastors came together to pray for forgiveness, reconciliation, unity, mercy and healing.

Faith leaders prayed for families who have been impacted by violence in the city.

They prayed for families of Vivian Strong, a 14-year-old black girl killed by police 50 years ago.

Leaders also prayed for James Scurlock, who was shot and killed at the height of the recent protests, along with Omaha Police Officer Larry Minard who was killed in the line of duty in the 1970s.

They also offered prayers for one of the men convicted in that case: Ed Poindexter.

Pastors also called for reform within the city of Omaha and throughout the entire country.

Organizer Preston Love says no matter how painful the past is, there's always room for healing and redemption.
