Pedestrian hit by semi dies

UPDATE FRIDAY 4:35 A.M. FRIDAY: Police say the person hit by the semi-truck has died.

After investigation, it was discovered a 2006 Freightliner Corp. semi truck was heading south on North 16th Street when it attempted to turn onto Cuming Street. A person was struck by the semi as they were attempting to cross 16th Street in the crosswalk from east to west.

The pedestrian was transported to Nebraska Medicine by OFD medics where they were later pronounced dead. The driver of the truck has been identified as 43-year-old Jeremy Cleaver. The victim's identity has not been released.

ORIGINAL STORY

Omaha police say a pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a semi at the intersection of 16th and Cuming. Police responded to the scene around 3:30 p.m.

Medics transported the person to the hospital.
