A pilot is dead after crashing a small plane in rural Wayne County Sunday.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says the pilot was found dead after multiple agencies searched into the night following a report of the plane diverting to Wayne Municipal Airport.
Officials said the pilot took off from Sioux Gateway Airport in Sioux City, but never notified the airport of its arrival in Wayne.
That’s when the Sheriff’s Office was notified and the pilot was later found around 1:30 a.m. in a rural area of the county.
Authorities have not released the name of the pilot.
