Omaha Police say four people have been arrested for allegedly buying and then providing guns to others.
Richard Burton, Brian Littlejohn, Javon Murry, and Diamond Anderson have been indicted on federal and state charges for allegedly buying guns and giving them to someone who cannot legally get one. The practice is known as a straw purchase, which is a felony.
To legally buy a gun, a person must be able to pass an FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check. Police say when criminals know they will not pass the background check, the often try to get someone to make the purchase for them. Police say that is how Marcus Wheeler obtained the gun he used to shoot and kill Omaha Police officer Kerrie Orozco in May of 2015. A Georgia woman, Jalita Johnson, received a sentence of one year probation, 6 months of house arrest and community service for buying the 9 millimeter Glock pistol used to kill Orozco.
