SCHUYLER, Neb. (KMTV) - A student at Schuyler Central High School was taken into custody on Wednesday after they allegedly had a handgun, knife and ammunition on school grounds.
School officials were alerted that a student may be in possession of a gun and ammunition around 10 a.m. School officials subsequently searched the student's belongings and said they found the handgun, knife and ammunition.
The items were turned over to police once they arrived minutes after being contacted at 11:30 a.m. The student remains in custody as of Wednesday night.
The student was not named because they are under the age of 18.
Police said they encourage anyone who has knowledge of a weapon being brought to school to notify their local law enforcement and school leaders right away.
