Sunday marked the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I and also marked the independence of Poland.
The Polish Heritage Society of Nebraska held a wreath-laying ceremony honoring Nebraska veterans of polish descent.
The event was held at the WWI Memorial at St. John Kanty Cemetery in Bellevue. The wreath-laying was followed by a celebration at the Polish Home.
"You know for 123 years, Poland didn't exist, it was through memory of sacrifices and the maintenance of the culture that brought the nation to exist and state to come back into being," said Jim Rapczynski of the Polish Home.
