OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The city wants to hear from you about the proposed tax on vaping products.

There will be a public hearing at today's City council meeting about a plan to make those selling vape products pay the city's 3 percent occupation tax. Mayor Stothert says she will approve the tax if the City Council passes it.

3 News Now reporter Jon Kipper looked into the proposal earlier this month and spoke with council members Aimee Melton and Brinker Harding. The vaping related items that will be part of the tax are currently unclear.

The first hearing on the measure was October 8th, amidst a rise in vaping-related deaths around the country and one locally in Douglas County. President Trump and the FDA have proposed changes to ban flavored e-juices in vapes.

Today's council meeting starts at 2:00 p.m., and we will be live streaming on our website, Facebook page, and other streaming devices.
