The Douglas County Health Department is warning of rabid bats after one was discovered outside Morton Middle School Friday and contact with it was reported Wednesday.
Health officials say several bats in the area have tested positive for rabies this year and they are warning people, especially those who may have had contact with a bat to get vaccinated.
"Contact is defined as any physical contact with the bat such as touching it, kicking it, having a wing touch you in anyway regardless of whether they remember it or not," Dr. Anne O'Keefe with the Health Department said.
So far in 2018, there have been 21 cases of rabies reported in Nebraska.
