OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) -- — An elderly Omaha woman is in the hospital after she was attacked inside her Regency apartment.

Early Tuesday morning, police responded to the Regency Lakeside Apartments for a forced entry burglary. There they found Jaqueline Leahy, 77, with wounds from being assaulted by an unknown assailant.

Neighbors say she’s a sweet lady, and there’s been continued vehicle break-ins, property damage, and stolen cars dumped at the apartments.

“We just don’t know where all this crime is coming from all around here but they’re definitely targeting this area. There’s no doubt in my mind,” said Kathy Christensen, a resident.

Crimemapping.com indicates that 9 different crimes have been reported at the complex in the last 5 months.

“We were devastated to learn of the isolated incident that took place on our property on the evening of June 22, 2020. Our thoughts are with the impacted resident and we wish her a speedy recovery. The safety of our residents is of the utmost importance to us, and we screen and conduct a background check on everyone who leases with us. Additionally, we have camera systems strategically placed throughout the entire community and all buildings are controlled access. As they would anywhere, we encourage all residents to take precautions to protect their personal safety and notify us of any concerns at the community,” said Nicole Vogel, Property Manager at Regency Lakeside Apartments.

The victim, at last check, was in ICU at CHI Bergan Mercy. Police have not identified or arrested any suspects.
