Sandhill Crane migration draws big crowds

It was a busy spring for the Crane Trust Nature & Visitors Center.
 
An estimated 50,000 tourists came through the doors during the 2017 Sandhill Crane migration season. Those tourists came from an estimated 64 countries.
 
The Crane Trust conducts aerial counts each week during the migration. It reached a peak of 404,000 Sandhill Cranes during the week of March 15th. 
 
Each spring, around 600,000 Sandhill Cranes descend upon a small patch of the Platte River near Wood River, Nebraska.
