Semi-truck driver killed in rollover crash near Stuart, Iowa

A 62-year-old semi-truck driver hauling "hazardous materials" died after he was ejected in a rollover accident about 40 miles west of Des Moines, according to a report from the Iowa State Patrol.

Michael Byers, a Ruan Transport driver from Des Moines, was not wearing his seat belt when the truck he was driving left I-80 Westbound near Stuart, Iowa, entered the ditch, causing the 2018 Freightliner semi-truck to roll, ISP reports state.

Byers was taken by air to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, where he was pronounced dead, ISP reports state. 

Hazmat crews were called to the scene. The accident remains under investigation by ISP, assisted by the Adair County Sheriff's Department, Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement, and the Stuart Fire Department.
