OMAHA, Neb. — National Reading Day is January 23rd. Here at KMTV we are excited to help promote literacy in our community, and we want you to join our effort.

The Scripps Howard Foundation puts on an annual fundraiser called, "If you give a child a book..." All Scripps television stations, including KMTV, raise money to buy books for children.

KMTV is helping put on a Scholastic Book Fair for the children who attend the Florence Boys & Girls Club. Enough money was raised for 170 children to pick out and take home four books apiece.

Research clearly shows that children who read at home have a leg up on other children in a variety of subjects.

We know that reading is important in a lot of homes, and we want to see you reading with your children or you can send us a video of them reading or simply tell us your favorite children's book. Please share by messaging us on Facebook, commenting on this story post or tagging @3NewsNowOmaha on Twitter. You can also use the hashtag #GiveAChildABook

Tune into Pickler & Ben on KMTV on January 23rd to learn more about the campaign.
