The Douglas County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate a string of burglaries at homes under construction after a man is arrested for the crimes.

Jason John Sr., 39, is charged with one count of felony theft in Douglas County, and has a warrant for the same charge in Sarpy County.  He's currently at the Douglas County Jail, and this week was bound over for trial in district court.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says for about 4 months ending in November John broke into 30-40 homes that were in different phases of construction in Northwest and Southwest Omaha.  He allegedly took new appliances, fixtures, furnaces, air conditioners, and construction tools totalling tens of thousands of dollars.

Sheriff's say he previously worked as a sub-contractor and possibly for Celebrity Homes.

"People who have worked in the construction industry are familiar with what doors and windows get left open or how to easily circumvent the limited security is available for houses that are completely secure," said Lt. William Rinn with the DCSO.

Celebrity Homes and Cambridge Homes were two construction companies that had houses targeted.

Authorities are adding up all the property that they've seized through search warrants and anticipate more charges.

There have been other construction burglaries since John's arrest, so sheriff's are investigating if others are involved.
