Jan. 13, 2017 is a date that stays in many minds throughout Omaha.

A two-alarm fire at the Sons of Italy Hall took more than a building, it took memories and history.

"I think it's important that we bring it back because we have a lot to offer the city of Omaha," Sons of Italy trustee George Grillo said.

The project is a little behind schedule, but optimism remains that the building will be re-opened by its target date in September of 2018. There will be some changes to the building though, such as a different location for the bar and restrooms and a wall with new memorabilia. Additionally, the hall itself will be a bit larger.

"It has been a very long process, but we can see the light at the end of the table," Grillo said. "Colors will be bright, people will be very cheerful because people will be back doing what they do best, making pasta."
