OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) – One of the staffers injured at the Nebraska State Penitentiary this weekend is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Union officials say the man injured is Santino Akot, a father of three and a refugee from South Sudan who came to Nebraska to be a corrections officer.
State correctional officials say on Saturday an inmate injured two staffers in a "particularly brutal and unprovoked attack."
On Monday nearly 100 staffers, state troopers and K-9 teams searched cells and rooms at the Lincoln facility.
