An inmate at the Nebraska State Penitentiary hit a staff member in the face several times Sunday evening, the Department of Corrections reported on Monday.
The staff member was taken to the hospital and received several stitches in the lip, the state DOC said in a media release.
The assault occurred around 7 p.m., after the inmate refused to obey the staff member's request to return to a secure area, the release states.
The incident is under investigation.
