OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Lincoln Fire and Rescue says the smell of natural gas is looming over Lincoln neighborhoods but there's no reason for alarm.

They say, Black Hills Energy is moving truckloads of contaminated dirt from a work site at 84th and Old Cheney. The dirt is giving off the odor of mercaptan, the additive in natural gas that gives it its detectable odor.

The trucks "will be traveling east on Old Cheney to 120th then north to the dump."

The trucks should be finished at about 3 p.m.
