OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — This weekend, thousands will flock downtown to take part in the Taste of Omaha food festival. Last year, a woman was shot and killed while leaving the event. This year the Omaha Police Department says they're ready to keep it from happening again.

In 2018 Jasmine Harris was leaving the Taste Of Omaha when she was caught in crossfire from rival gangs and killed. She was only 50 feet from her car when it happened.

A handful of others were also injured in the chaos but recovered.

On Wednesday, the Omaha Police Department said they will have twice as many gang unit officers on hand to handle the crowds.
