OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Easter is about a week and a half away. Unfortunately, most Easter egg hunts have been canceled because of social distancing. But not the Great Omaha Easter Egg Hunt.
Liz Stinman is bringing the community together in creativity.
“Even the physical egg hunt is such a huge part of several communities and neighborhoods,” Stinman said. “So not getting to do that this year. Having something to replace it sans candy, chocolate.”
After hearing about Lincoln’s Easter Egg Hunt she started Omaha’s Facebook group last week; it now has more than 8,000 members.
“Having it grown so much is really a testament to our community and everyone believing in this shared activity and goal,” Stinman said.
The idea is for people to color pictures of Easter eggs, then hang them in their windows for others to find.
“It’s really been cool, just seeing how creative people are creating these templates,” Stinman said. “I always said the sky is the limit. If you don’t have a printer there are so many different things you can do to make eggs.”
A shared Google map shows people where the eggs are so they can drive around and hunt for them. There are thousands in Omaha and surrounding communities.
“It really feels great,” Stinman said. “How much their kids are enjoying it, how they’ve gotten to come together as a family, all participate in this shared thing, it really warms my heart.”
