The Omaha Police Department shut down part of the JFK Freeway for a portion of the morning after responding to a double fatal accident on Tuesday.

Sgt. Jason Menning said crews received a phone call at around 2:10 a.m. about a driver going the wrong way on the JFK.

Just two minutes later, another phone call came in about a head-on collision at the intersection of the JFK and F Street.

Sgt. Menning tweeted updates and a picture from the scene.

The female driver of a Mazda sedan struck a minivan head on, according to Sgt. Menning.

She and the male drive of the minivan were pronounced dead on scene.

Traffic was diverted onto L Street for nearly four hours, until crews cleared the area.

Sgt. Menning says they are still investigating the crash.
