Two men were arrested in connection with a South Omaha robbery that left a third man dead earlier this week.

The Omaha Police Homicide Unit arrested York Rodriguez, 18, who faces first-degree murder charges, indicating investigators believe he caused his friend’s death.

Luis Aguilar, also 18, who investigators said was the get-away driver, was also arrested; he is facing robbery charges.

At around 11 p.m. Monday, Rodriguez and 18-year-old Jose Velazquez went into Bizarre Glass near 40th and L streets, attempting to rob the business, OPD said. The store clerk exchanged gunfire with the young suspects, and a bullet hit Velazquez, police said.

Omaha Fire medics took Velazquez to CUMC Bergan Mercy in extremely critical condition, but he died at the hospital, police said.

The Douglas County Attorney’s Office determined the shooting was justified.
