OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Union Pacific confirmed layoffs impacting both management and unionized employees on Friday.
A spokesperson for Union Pacific said in a statement that the company notified Operating Department employees across their 23-state system of workforce reductions on Thursday and Friday.
"This is part of Union Pacific’s continuous efforts to streamline operations, while aligning our service product and resources to drive efficiency. These are difficult decisions; however, we remain committed to providing our customers safe, efficient and reliable service that ensures Union Pacific remains a strong and competitive company," the statement said.
Union Pacific didn't provide data on the number of workers affected at specific locations.
