One man is dead after a shooting involving a Cass County Sheriff's deputy in Louisville.

The Nebraska State Patrol says Deputy Tyler Reiff stopped a vehicle near First and Cherry Streets in Louisville around 7:15 Wednesday night which matched the description of a vehicle that was reported driving recklessly earlier.  23 year old Austin Baier of Louisville got out and approached Deputy Reiff. A confrontation ensued and Reiff fired his gun, hitting Baier.  Medical personel and Reiff attempted life saving measures, but Baier died at the scene.

A woman who knew Baier, and didn't want to be identified said he had his problems but was stunned he was involved.

"Just beyond shocked I mean not only from just a small town, but just knowing him and his family and nobody nobody would’ve expected this," the woman explained. "None of it sounds like him.  That’s not him, he’s not the one that wants to cause fights or start fights he was always just so laid back and he talked real soft.”

Reiff has been placed on administrative leave.  A grand jury will be convened to investigate the incident, which is required by state law.

KMTV contacted Cass County Attorney Nathan Cox multiple times on Thursday, but he wouldn't do an on-camera interview.
