OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Just right for the pickin' Apple Festival kicks off Labor Day Weekend
With about 40 different varieties of apples to pick from, Vala's Apple Orchard is holding an Apple Festival with plenty of themed menu items.
"We're going to have homemade apple dumplings, you have to come out and try those, they are made from these gala apples right here on the orchard. We will have Apple Slushies, Apple Sundae Funnel Cakes and be sure to visit the Pie Barn where we make our Apple Pie," said Kyla Shavers, Director of Marketing & Entertainment, Tala's Apple Orchard.
They have giant apples to admire, apple treasure hunts and instructions on hope to properly pick an apple. Of course, there are thousands of apple trees to pick and eat from. Another treat, you get to learn about the many varieties of apples and what they are used for.
"Some of the types date back to the early 1600 and 1700's. Dessert apples are great for apple pie and other things in the dessert apple world. There are sharps and bitters, some of the older varieties are better for creating apple cider," said Vaughn Hammond, Agriculture Manager, Vala's Apple Orchard.
Tractor rides will take you to the Orchard area for you to pick your apples.
