An elderly Fort Calhoun woman is dead following a crash Tuesday afternoon.
Washington County deputies say the 81 year old woman was northbound on Highway 75 and crossed the center line near County Road 30, and struck an oncoming garbage truck nearly head on at around 12:40 p.m.. The driver of the truck, 61 year old Joseph Bauersachs of Omaha tried to swerve but was unable to avoid the collision. He was uninjured.
Paramedics took the woman to CHI Bergan Mercy where she died. Her name has not been released pending notification of relatives.
