Whiteclay beer stores owe more than $600,000 in taxes

According to a state audit, the beer stores in Whiteclay ow more than $600,000 in taxes. The audit states the stores understated $1.7 million in sales over a three-year period. 

The stores were responsible for selling million of cans of beer, often to Native Americans along the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The Pine Ridge community suffered from alcoholism at a high rate. 

The four stores were forced to stop selling alcohol in April
