Smoke from fires in Kansas and east of Beatrice has forced Lincoln Public Schools to keep students indoors on Wednesday.
School officials say they made the decision based on advice from the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department and their own health experts. The fires are exposing people in southeast Nebraska and Lincoln to unhealthy levels of smoke. As a result, all physical education classes are being held indoors, and all athletic competitions have been canceled. Practices will be held indoors.
The district plans to continue to monitor air quality due to the regional fires.
