A 12-year-old girl from Atlanta, Georgia, who tested positive for the novel coronavirus, is responding well to treatment.

Doctors diagnosed the girl, Emma, with pneumonia earlier this month. Days later, she tested positive for COVID-19.

The girl was admitted to the children’s hospital, where she is slowly waking up from sedation, according to the girl’s cousin, Justin Anthony.

Anthony said the girl’s lungs showed “good improvement.” He told CNN his cousin had no pre-existing conditions.

The girl's family previously said they don't know how she contracted the virus.

Earlier this week, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms told CBS46 that intensive care units in the city were at “full capacity.” The city is currently under a stay-at-home order in an effort to curb the spread of the virus.
