Police in New Mexico release video of wild chase that caused truck to jackknife

The New Mexico State Police released video on Thursday of a wild wrong-way police chase from earlier in the month of a wrong-way driver that caused a semi to jackknife.


On Feb. 7, Adrian Madrid allegedly led officers from the New Mexico State Police and deputies from the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office on a wrong-way chase on Interstate 25 for several miles. This followed calls from drivers of reports of a wrong-way driver.

The New Mexico State Police said that an officer used a PIT maneuver to force the car to wreck into a guardrail. The maneuver was successful, bringing an end to the pursuit. Madrid was arrested and treated for minor injuries.

The New Mexico State Police said Madrid was charged with the following crimes:

  • Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer 30-22-1.1 (4th Degree Felony)
  • Aggravated DWI (4th offense) 66-8-102 (4th Degree Felony)
  • Reckless Driving 66-8-113 (Misdemeanor)
  • Open Container 66-8-138 (Misdemeanor)
  • Suspended Driver’s License 66-5-29 (Misdemeanor)
  • Failure to Report (Accident involving damage to vehicle) 66-7-202 (Misdemeanor)
  • Leaving the scene of a Crash (No Great Bodily harm or death); 66-7-206 (Misdemeanor)
  • Speeding 66-7-301 (Misdemeanor)
  • No Seatbelt 66-7-372 (Misdemeanor)
