SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (KMTV) - Students at an Illinois high school are looking to rename the school in honor of President Barack Obama.

Students at Southeast High School want to rename the school to Barack Obama Southeast High School.

"Barack Obama started his political career in our beloved home of Springfield Illinois. He announced he was running for president in front of the old state capital we have all grown up with," the petition read. "Renaming Southeast High School to Barack Obama Southeast High School would also inspire political careers from the youth who have grown up with his policies in practice. It would show the youth who have grown up on the East side that you too can be president one day, that no dream is too far fetched."

The petition has over 300 signatures so far with a goal of at least 500.
