Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals-Omaha Campus is hosting a free car seat check-up event for families from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 3.
The Centers for Disease Control says an estimated 59 percent of car seats and 20 percent of booster seats are misused in a way that could reduce their effectiveness.
The event is held with the Safe Kids - Sarpy/Cass Health Dept. and Children's Hospital and Medical Center. During it, certified car seat technicians will inspect and teach visitors how to safely install car seats. Families can plan on spending 30 minutes per car seat and are encouraged to bring their children. They're also asked to bring the vehicle owner's and car seat manuals.
