Creighton Cruises Past Winthrop

Winners of six of its last seven games entering Friday's series opener against Winthrop, Creighton baseball continued its solid play, flying past the Eagles, 7-1 at TD Ameritrade Park.

The Bluejays actually trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, but then CU's bats took control on the way to five-run fourth inning.  The hot hitting started with a solo home run from sophomore shortstop, Thomas Leuvano.  Creighton plate five in the inning on four hits and one error.

The Bluejays' starter Friday, Rollie Lacy, held strong to that six-run lead and pitched into the eighth inning. Lacy did not walk a batter in 7.2 innings of work, while striking out seven on his way to the win (2-2).

Creighton is now 8-12 overall this season. The Bluejays and the Eagles return to the diamond Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
