Creighton Falls To St. John's In 14 Innings

Posted

The Creighton baseball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead but couldn't hold on falling to 14th ranked St. John's, 3-2 in 14 innings Friday at TD Ameritrade Park.

Riley Landuyt's infield single scored Clark Brinkman to put the Jays up 1-0 in the bottom of the first. Later in the inning, Will Robertson's RBI single scored Isaac Collins to put CU up 2-0.

But then the Red Storm chipped away scoring one run in the top of the fourth and the tying run in the top of the seventh.

Creighton's Ethan DeCaster pitched six innings of  scoreless relief striking out five.

But in the top of the 14th, St. John's took the lead for good after a single to left that Jason Allbery misplayed allowing the game-winning run to score.

CU fell to 8-16, 0-1 in BIG EAST play while the Red Storm improved to 22-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The same two teams meet Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.
