Creighton volleyball tops UNI in NCAA Tournament match

Posted

The Huskers are not the only volleyball team in the state making noise. The Creighton Bluejays picked up their 21st straight win with a 3-2 victory over Northern Iowa in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

No. 21 Creighton had a match point in the third set, but Northern Iowa would not go away as it pushed the Bluejays to five sets. Creighton won the fifth set 15-12.

Jaali Winters broke her own school record of kills in an NCAA Tournament match with 24. Winters also added 12 digs and four blocks which gave Winters her fifth double-double of the fall. Marysa Wilkinson finished with a career high 18 kills while hitting .394.

The win advances Creighton to the sub-Regional round of the NCAA Tournament tonight at 6:30 against the fourth-ranked and No. 5 overall seed Kansas Jayhawks. The Bluejays and Jayhawks met earlier this year as Kansas handed Creighton its only home loss of the season in five sets.
