Our next topic in our 17 Husker storylines for 2017 turns to special teams, specifically, punter Caleb Lightbourn.
Last year, Lightbourn was thrown into the starting job immediately as a true freshman following the death of Sam Foltz. The Washington state native had an up and down first year with the Big Red.
Nebraska ended up 12th in the league in net punt average at 33.6 yards per kick. The Huskers gave up the third highest punt return average as well in the Big Ten last year.
Lightbourn, however, did have a handful of bright spots in 2016 with ten punts of over 50 yards. He also had 21 punts downed inside the 20 yard line and was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after his performance against Oregon.
Now with one year of college football under his belt, Lightbourn could be more a consistent punter for Nebraska in 2017.
