We continue our series of the 17 biggest Husker headlines to know for the 2017 season with Nebraska's options at tight end. After the departure of Cethan Carter and two other four-year letterwinners at the tight end position, the competition for this year's starter at tight end is wide open for Nebraska.
The most experienced at the spot is Lincoln native Tyler Hoppes. The Wayne State transfer has seen some action at tight end so far in his NU career, but most of his playing time has been spent on special teams.
There is a good amount of younger talent at the position that Nebraska may look to choose from. Sophomore Matt Snyder has the size to factor in at the position. And redshirt freshman David Engelhaupt impressed in the Spring Game, reeling in four grabs for 54 yards.
Two incoming freshman will also factor into the tight end equation for Nebraska. Aurora's Austin Allen bring his big 6'8 frame to Lincoln, while 6'7 Kurt Rafdal should also get some looks from Mike Riley at the tight end spot.
