Bray staying with Huskers pleases Riley

Posted

Nebraska head football coach Mike Riley nearly had to hire another assistant this past offseason after he said Trent Bray was offered the chance to become the defensive coordinator at San Jose State.

Bray ultimately passed on the opportunity to remain the Huskers' linebackers coach.

"The interesting thing about Trent was it was not about money," Riley said Tuesday at Big Ten Media Days. "He's a football nut. So the idea of coordinating was very appealing to him. My biggest thought to him was stay here and learn under Coach Diaco."

Bray has been with Riley since the 2012 season when he was hired as linebackers coach at Oregon State. The Pullman, Washington native also played under Riley from 2002-2005.

"He is going to be a coordinator," said Riley. "And he will be good."
