Nebraska football's junior offensive lineman Nick Gates was added to the Outland Trophy watch list Thursday. Gates is one of 11 Big Ten athletes added to the 81-man list.

The 6'6, 295-pound offensive tackle has anchored the Huskers' offensive line for the past two seasons. Gates started all 13 games last season, helping Nebraska lead the Big Ten in fewest sacks allowed with 15.

With Gates anchoring the line, the Huskers had four 200-yard rushing efforts last season. He was also named an All-Big Ten performer for the third time last season by the conference media.

Eight Huskers have combined for a nation-leading nine Outland Trophies with Dave Rimington winning the award twice. Nebraska has not had player earn the honor since Ndamukong Suh in 2009.

The Outland Trophy finalists will be announced on Nov. 21, with the winner announced on the Home Depot College Football Awards show on Dec. 7.  The Outland Trophy presentation banquet, sponsored by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee, will be held on Jan. 10, 2018 in Omaha.
