OSI B1G football previews: Penn State edition

Posted at
and last updated

For today's edition of B1G football previews, we take a look at the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Last season offensively, Penn State ranked 101st in scoring and 105th in both total yards and rushing. Penn State also takes a huge blow with the loss of veteran quarterback Christian Hackenberg.

While there's no one on Penn State's roster with Hackenberg's athletic abilities, the Nittany Lions bring in Joe Moorhead, former Fordham head coach, as offensive coordinator to try to speed up the pace of the offense. Penn State also brought in Matt Limegrover as their new offensive line coach to help fix the issues up front

Defensively, Penn State loses a lot of production from it's front seven with the loss of defensive linemen Carl Nassib, Austin Johnson and Anthony Zettel. However, the defense ranked 14th in the country in terms of production last season. The Nittany Lions could see similar results if they can get some help from a few returning defensive backs and a young defensive line.

Penn State is back to the 85 scholarship limit after sanctions placed on the program following the Jerry Sandusky scandal, so the numbers for the Nittany Lions should start to even out.

This season, Penn State will be young, but have the weapons in place to make some noise in the B1G.
