The final practice for Nebraska football ahead of the Red-White Spring Game is in the books, and Riley announced his plans for the format of Saturday's game.
The layout of past spring games has varied from year to year. Whether it's offense against defense, to first team versus second team, or just situational work, one thing remains the same: Husker fans show up in force.
As of Thursday afternoon, the Huskers have sold over 70,000 tickets to the Nebraska faithful who are ready to see some game-like action.
Head coach Mike Riley said This year's spring game will feature two teams selected by coaches, but not offense against defense. Riley said there will be no live returns, but he does want punter Caleb Lightbourn to get at least four or five punts in, as well as place kicker Drew Brown getting in a few field goals.
Riley said the first half of play will be just like a game with 15 minute quarters, time restraints and TV timeouts. The second half will feature two 15 minute quarters of running clock.
Many of the fans packing into Memorial Stadium will be there to see the Huskers two new quarterbacks fight for the first-string position. Langsdorf said the evaluation of the quarterbacks in the Spring Game won't be too much different from a regular practice.
"It’s going to be a deal where there will be a bunch of people in the stands and that will be different,” Langsdorf said. “Making sure we have a lot of poise and don’t get too caught up in all the hype of the day. So that will be different for them [Tanner Lee and Patrick O’Brien] but in terms of evaluation it will be heavily graded and looked at like all of our practices have been. It’s an important practice but it’s not anything way different in terms of the whole entire spring and how we’ve evaluated it.”
