SHOWTIME has released a trailer for an upcoming documentary about former Husker I-back Lawrence Phillips. Phillips was a member of the 1994 and 1995 National Championship teams at Nebraska.
Phillips was named First-Team All-Big Eight in 1994 and was an early front-runner for the Heisman Trophy in 1995 before being suspended by Head Coach Tom Osborne for off-the-field issues. Phillips forwent his senior season with the Huskers and entered the NFL draft. He was selected sixth overall by the St. Louis Rams.
While serving time in a California prison in 2015, Phillips was found unresponsive. His death was ruled a suicide.
The documentary, titled "RUNNING FOR HIS LIFE: The Lawrence Phillips Story" will air on SHOWTIME Friday, Dec. 16 at 8:00 p.m. CT. Watch the trailer below:
