Moos will begin his new role on October 23 and has agreed to a five year contract with a base salary of $1 million, plus incentives. He succeeds Shawn Eichorst, who was fired on September 21. Moos' hiring caught Washington State officials off guard, who learned of his hiring in Nebraska from an ESPN reporter.
Moos has been the athletic director at Washington State since 2010, and in 2012 hired Mike Leach as football coach. Leach has turned that program around and led them to nine and eight wins the last two seasons. Washington State is ranked number 8 in the country, but got run over by unranked California last night 37 to 3. Before that, Moos worked at Oregon and spent more than a decade turning the Ducks into a football powerhouse in the Pac-12 before leaving due to a dispute with Nike founder and Oregon mega-donor Phil Knight.
