Life in the NCHC is always challenging and unpredictable. Every team knows regardless of their current standing, there are no easy weekends in this conference. Entering the final weekend in January, UNO is sitting 4th in the conference with 3 points on North Dakota after the Fighting Hawks suffered a rare sweep at home. The Mavericks remaining schedule will be at #3 Denver, at #2 Minnesota-Duluth, #10 Western Michigan, at #12 North Dakota, and closing the regular season at home against Denver. The death-march begins this weekend for Omaha. There is plenty of reason to doubt any team facing that kind of a schedule but this is nothing new for Omaha, who faced a similar stretch to close out last season. The question is can the Mavs exercise their demons of the past?

UNO took a step in the right direction last weekend grabbing 4 of 6 points in the standings with a tie and a win over Miami-Ohio at home. Now the attention shifts back to the road where the Mavericks are 8-1-2. This will be the first meeting of the season between Omaha and Denver. The Pioneers are as solid as their record and ranking indicate. Forwards Henrik Borgstrom, Dylan Gambrell, and Troy Terry have led the offensive production. The tri has combined for 30 goals and 38 assists. Denver also features one of the best defenceman in the league, senior Will Butcher.
