Omaha hockey upsets No. 8 Western Michigan

After falling to No. 8 Western Michigan on Friday night, Omaha battled its way to a 6-3 victory to conclude the season series.

On Friday night, after trailing the Broncos 5-4, the Mavs tied the game at 4:58 in the third period Friday. Omaha took their only lead of the game from a power play goal by Fredrick Olofsson at 8:24.

But the Broncos' Griffen Molino capped off a hat trick with two goals in the final 5:48 to finish the game.  

In the weekend finale on Saturday night, the Mavericks started off hot with a 2-0 lead in the first period Saturday night. Omaha's Riley Alferd recorded his first and second career goals in the first period. 

The Mavericks held a 3-2 lead over Western Michigan entering the third period. The Broncos tied up the game 3-3 at 14:25. Once again, Omaha's Olofsson scored his second goal of the night in the third period to give the Mavericks the lead.

Next, Omaha's Luc Snuggerud and Justin Parizek scored just seconds apart to give Omaha a 6-3 win to split the weekend series. 

Up next Omaha (15-12-5) travels to take on North Dakota (15-11-3) Friday, March 3rd and 4th.
