UNO MBB elects not to participate in postseason tournament

UNO basketball head coach Darrin Hansen announced Saturday that the Mavs have elected not to participate in a postseason tournament. Here's Hansen's full statement:

"After speaking with our team and athletic administration, we have agreed that the 2016-17 season should end at the Summit League Championship. We appreciate the interest shown in our program for postseason tournament opportunities but have ultimately elected not to participate. We had no guarantees for opponents and were not keen on paying to extend our season. This has been a long and challenging year, and it would be difficult to match this week's tournament experience as we vied for our first league championship.

"We're thankful for the memorable run by our student-athletes in Sioux Falls and for the support shown to us by so many people on our campus, in the Omaha community and across the state of Nebraska. We look forward to building on that momentum in 2017-18."

The Mavs had their season come to an end after a 79-77 loss to South Dakota State in the Summit League Tournament finals. Had Omaha won the game, it would have advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
